Our Vision

Person walking in a grassy field towards a mountain, surrounded by trees, under a cloudy sky.

Here at RootFolk, we believe in roots—not just in who you are and where you come from, but in who you’ll be and where you’ll go. Roots are a reflection of how when we grow inward, we also grow outward. To us, they are a celebration of origin, connection, presence, depth, strength, exploration, and intuition. Just as roots instinctively know where to grow, we believe in the body’s innate ability to do the same—to heal, adapt, and find balance when given the right nourishment.

Upon earning my Masters of Science in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine, RootFolk will fully evolve into a private practice where we work with folks to facilitate their healing—all the way to the root.

In the meantime, our aim is to help you cultivate reconnection—to yourself, to others, to plants, to the earth, to cycles, and ultimately, to your roots.

Stick around for educational workshops, herbal remedies, nourishing recipes, and more.

The Folk behind RootFolk

The founder of RootFolk wearing a cap, green t-shirt, denim shorts, and hiking shoes stands by a lakeside with clear water, surrounded by trees and mountains in the background under a blue sky with clouds.

Howdy! My name is Lauren and I am the ‘folk’ behind RootFolk

Born and raised in Missouri and now based in Montana, I’m currently completing my Masters in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine, with the vision of RootFolk growing into a private practice where I work one-on-one with patients to support healing through nutrition, herbal medicine, and the mind-body-spirit connection.

My love for plants and the natural world around me stems from a curiosity that is deeply rooted in my childhood. Growing up, I played in creek beds with my siblings, foraged for wild mushrooms with my dad, and spent many hours in the kitchen cooking fresh foods with my mom. However, somewhere along the way, I felt myself becoming more and more disconnected.

Upon healing from a chronic illness of my own, I came to the conclusion that it was a lot more than the illness itself making so many of us sick. I realized that many of us lacked community and connection—not just with the people around us but with the world around us—and it’s making us sick.

This experience led me to make a radical change in my life. I ditched my corporate job, moved out west, went back to school, and made it a priority to form relationships with the bioregional plant allies that grow around me.

Now, I embrace place-based living—connecting with the land where I am, working with the plants that thrive here, and aligning with the rhythms of the seasons. I believe in community-minded consumption, in choosing relationships over transactions, in supporting local growers and makers who care for the land and nourish the people around them. Living this way fosters deeper connection—not just to each other and our human friends, but to the earth and our plant and animal friends, as well.

About the name

The “Root” in RootFolk comes from my belief that roots are the foundation of everything we do. They represent the deep, intuitive wisdom we all carry—the ability to create our own healing.

It’s also inspired by a saying I live by: Be More Tree. When I was younger, my Aunt Patty would say this to me often. I always took it to mean “stay grounded” and “trust yourself.” It’s a philosophy I return to again and again. So… be more tree, y’all.

The “Folk” in RootFolk is for all the folk who share this world—humanfolk, plantfolk, animalfolk, and beyond.

I grew up near the Ozark Hills of Missouri, where the people are referred to as Hillfolk. I wanted this community to embody that same feeling of belonging—but with even deeper roots. RootFolk is a space that transcends time and place, connecting you to yourself, your ancestors, the earth, and the living beings that make up this world.
